Google Video to PSP/iPod

January 23, 2006

:sun When Google Video launched it’s beta, I wasn’t very impressed. I couldn’t find any relevant content, that wasn’t available elsewhere at better qualities, and downloadable for offline viewing.

However in the last day, Google Video has moved up in my estimation and has suddenly become a useful tool. This may be old news, but you can now download (for free) video, and also choose to have it in PC/Mac, iPod, or PSP formats. This is great, but needs (at least) 2 enhancements: -

1. RSS/Podcast feeds (come on Google get with the program)
2. The download to PSP doesn’t provide the crappy .THM file, so you can’t just drag and drop the video onto your PSP, unlike the iPod video which can be transferred in seconds. I’ll need to work out how to do this that doesn’t involve buying Sony’s media software. Damn Sony!

Paid for content is also available, but I can’t find content that can be released in UK (argh, those bloody territorial restrictions – it’s a bloody global internet!).

I suppose these things will come, after all it’s still a beta.
