• Online collaborative project management tool similar to Basecamp. Definately a better interface than Basecamp, and with a few tweaks it could be way out in front. Some nice things offered that aren’t available in Basecamp are: -

    • Sub tasks
    • Due dates on task/sub tasks
    • Bug tracking
  • Developing things like would certainly improve the proposition (although it looks like there have been some tweaks): -

    • Showing task owners and due dates on the Task Summary page (similar to the tickets summary page)

    • Ability to filter tasks to show those assigned to a given user

    • Re-ordering of tasks and subtasks. Currently you can only re-order task lists.
    • Inline editing of tasks and notes from the summary page (currently you click to view a task and the page refreshes on that specific task)

    • Ability to preview comments, notes etc before posting. This is particularly important since there is no wysiwyg editing and you have to use ‘textile’ markup.

    • Ability to edit a comment after posting. Once it’s posted your can’t change it.

    • Importantly I think they should offer a free 1 month trial with all features enabled. The free version doesn’t enable the calendar, which would be critical in evaluating the tool (especially those thinking of migrating away from basecamp)

    • Ability to import from basecamp (who offer an import/export tool).

Oddles of Joost

March 4, 2007

Got my Joost account setup about a week ago.  I have to say it’s pretty impressive.  Nice interface (very Mac like).  Not a particularly wide selection of channels yet, but the potential is clearly there.  I’ve tried it on both XP and on my Mac Mini (hooked up to a HD Samsung slimfit CRT), and the quality of the streams is just short of standard definition.  Sound outputted via an AV amp is equivalent to Dolby Pro Logic and sounds as good as a standard broadcast.

Setup was simple and worked out of the box.  No router port forwarding required (as you’d expect from software of this lineage).

Registration is still by invite, and they are slowly sending them out (I was given 2 ‘tokens/invites’ the day after registering, and used them within minutes).
